A 21-year-old student of the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, Zarah Abubakar Shehu, has passed away in captivity four months after she was kidnapped alongside her two siblings.
Armed bandits stormed Zarah’s family home in the Damba area of Gusau in the early hours of Sunday, November 3, 2024, and abducted the 300-level student and her two siblings.
The bandits asked for N35 million for their release, but reduced it to N10 million after negotiations.
After the ransom was paid, the bandits reneged and asked for additional four motorcycles (Boza) and four cartons of engine oil before they would set Zarah and her siblings free.
The family ran around to raise funds for the additional demand and were able to accede to the bandits’ demand months after.
When the kidnappers’ leader was informed about compliance with their demands, he reportedly contacted his men, who then revealed that Zarah had already d!ed and was buried two days earlier.
Zarah was the only daughter of her mother.
No information was available on Zarah’s siblings.
