The Nigeria Police Force has announced the rescue of the sister of the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons, three days after they were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The victims, identified as Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were rescued during a coordinated operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team.

The police disclosed that the rescue operation was successfully executed at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in Ibadan.

Mrs Adegoke and her children were reportedly kidnapped on June 3 while she was driving the twins to school around 7:30 a.m.

According to the police, the breakthrough followed days of intensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations that enabled investigators to trace the movements of the kidnappers.

The operation eventually led to a confrontation between the suspected abductors and FID-IRT operatives.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, two suspected members of the kidnapping gang were fatally wounded during the exchange, while two rifles were recovered from the suspects.

The police said the victims were rescued unharmed and have since been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and other necessary support.

The Inspector-General of Police commended the officers involved in the operation, describing their actions as courageous, professional, and effective.

“Their resilience and commitment were instrumental in the safe rescue of the hostages,” the statement said.

The police added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation.

According to preliminary intelligence, some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation.

Security operatives have since intensified search operations in the area, with authorities vowing to track down and prosecute all individuals connected to the abduction.

The Force also thanked members of the public for their cooperation and support throughout the operation, reiterating its commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.
