The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Bayegun Nathaniel, over the alleged abduction and killing of a 16-year-old girl in the Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government Area.

The victim, identified as Adegbaaju Florence, was reportedly abducted last month. Following a formal complaint, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an intelligence-driven investigation that led to the suspect’s arrest on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Bayegun Nathaniel was apprehended after sustained surveillance operations. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to carrying out the crime alone.

Police revealed that ₦500,000 was paid as ransom during the incident. However, investigations indicate that the victim was later killed, with her body reportedly disposed of in a river within the Ogijo area.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to recover the remains for forensic examination, while investigations continue to ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly addressed.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public that justice will be pursued diligently. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

In a separate development, the police also reported the recovery of a firearm during a stop-and-search operation.

According to Babaseyi, an unidentified man riding an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle fled upon sighting officers.

While attempting to escape, the suspect reportedly discarded a single-barreled gun along with six live cartridges into a nearby bush. The items were recovered and secured at the police armoury.

Police say efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect, as part of ongoing operations to curb illegal arms possession and criminal activity in the state.
