Nigerian businessman Olakunle Churchill has pushed back against a divorce filing reportedly initiated by his estranged partner, Rosy Meurer, arguing that their union was never legally formalised.
“It was only an introduction”
In a statement shared on social media, Churchill maintained that their relationship did not constitute a legally recognised marriage, claiming it was limited to a traditional introduction ceremony.
According to him, the absence of either a court wedding or a church ceremony means there is no legal basis for divorce proceedings.
“How can she file for divorce when there was no legally recognised marriage?” he questioned.

Churchill also stated that he had not been served any official court documents regarding the alleged dissolution process. He suggested that his estranged partner may have received incorrect legal advice.
Reference to past relationship
Addressing public narratives around his previous marriage to actress Tonto Dikeh, Churchill dismissed claims that Meurer supported him during that period out of obligation, stating that others could have done the same.
He added that both he and Dikeh have moved past their differences and chosen forgiveness.
Background
Reports had earlier surfaced that Meurer filed for divorce after about five years of relationship and two children, amid renewed public attention following Churchill’s reconciliation with Dikeh.
