Gunmen attack Ekiti church, Pastor killed, worshippers abducted

Residents of Eda-Oniyo in Ekiti State have been left in shock after gunmen attacked a church service, killing a pastor and abducting several worshippers.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Number Two, during a special revival programme.

Attack during service

Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the church around 6:45 p.m., firing shots and causing panic among the congregation.

A visiting cleric, identified as Pastor Aregbe from Osun State, was killed during the attack. Several others sustained injuries, while at least six worshippers were reportedly taken away by the attackers.

Community in distress

A community source said the gunmen carried out the operation swiftly, leaving families scrambling to locate missing relatives.

“The entire community is in mourning… some people are still unaccounted for,” the source said.

Security response

A government official confirmed that security agencies have been deployed to the area and are currently tracking the perpetrators.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to rescue those abducted and restore calm, as residents grapple with the aftermath of the attack.

The attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of the country, particularly targeting rural communities and places of worship.
