Mercedes-Benz drags Osimhen to court over alleged €90,000 (N145m) debt

German automaker Mercedes-Benz has initiated legal proceedings against Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen over an alleged unpaid car lease dating back to his time in Italy.

Details of the case

The complaint was filed by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Italia in Milan, accusing the forward of failing to meet payment obligations tied to a luxury vehicle.

At the centre of the dispute is a Mercedes GLE hybrid SUV, reportedly leased by Osimhen in 2023 while he was playing for SSC Napoli.

(approximately ₦145 million), and the vehicle was allegedly not returned after the lease expired. The company has classified the matter as “misappropriation.”

As of the time of reporting, neither Osimhen nor his representatives have issued an official statement addressing the allegations.

Context and reactions

The case has drawn attention, given Osimhen’s high earnings and global profile. The forward, who won the CAF Player of the Year in 2023, reportedly earned around €10 million annually during his stint in Italy.

He now plays for Galatasaray, where his reported salary exceeds €18 million per year. Despite the legal issue, he recently featured in a match against Fenerbahçe, scoring his first goal in over a month.

Osimhen is also known for his taste in luxury cars, frequently seen with high-end models, including a customised Mercedes-Benz G-Class and a Lamborghini Revuelto.
