Eight children killed in Louisiana shooting as gunman attacks residential neighbourhood

A tragic shooting in Louisiana has left eight children dead after a gunman opened fire in a residential neighbourhood in the early hours of Sunday, April 19.
Police in Shreveport responded just after 6 am to reports of a domestic disturbance, where at least 10 people were shot during the incident.
Authorities confirmed that eight of the victims, all minors aged between 18 months and 14 years, died as a result of the attack.
Officials said some of the children were believed to be related to the suspect.
Two adult women survived the shooting, while a young boy sustained injuries after reportedly jumping from a roof in an attempt to escape.
The suspect, an adult male whose identity has not yet been released, was later shot and killed by police in Bossier Parish following a carjacking and pursuit that ended at a separate location. Authorities said he is believed to have been the only shooter involved in the incident.
Police described the scene as extensive, spanning multiple homes in the area. Investigators are still working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux described the incident as deeply devastating for the community, extending condolences to the victims’ families and emergency responders.
He added that the tragedy may be one of the most severe incidents the city has experienced, calling for community-wide support and reflection as investigations continue.
