Police arrest native doctor, two others for murder of missing Delta varsity student in Edo

The police in Edo State have arrested a native doctor and two other suspects for the murder of a 200-level student of the Delta State University, Agbor, Faith Omodon.

The 19-year-old Business Administration student was reported missing after she mysteriously disappeared on her way to her father’s farm in Edo State on March 30, 2024.

The victim’s father, Edward, a native of Uru Egbede community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state, said the incident occurred during the community’s national conference.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the sad development in a statement on Wednesday, May 8, said the police in collaboration with a vigilante group, arrested two suspects, Godspower Chukwuedo and Christopher Nwachukwu, after the mobile phone of the victim was traced to them.

According to the PPRO, the suspects confessed that they were sent by one Chukwuyem Jonah, a native doctor, to kidnap Faith Omodon in order to collect ransom from her rich father.

The suspects further confessed that they strangled the victim to death after she resisted the attempt to kidnap her.

Police operatives stormed Iru Community and arrested the native doctor.

Nwabuzor added that investigation had commenced in order to recover her corpse.

“It would be recalled that on 01/04/2024, that one Faith Omodon, a 200L student of Delta State University, Agbor who went to the farm in Ewohon/Uwemen communities in Edo State with a Lifan CG 125 motorcycle and never returned was declared missing on account of her father one Edward Omodon’s report to Abudu Division, Edo State,” the statement read.

“After a preliminary investigation was conducted by Abudu Division the case was transferred to State CID, Benin.

“The State CID operatives while collaborating with the Vigilantes group arrested two suspects, Godspower Chukwuedo, 23 years and Christopher Nwachukwu, 22 years.

“The suspects made statements to the Police and confessed that, they were being sent by one Chukwuyem Jonah, 26 years, a native doctor who lives in Iru community near Abudu, Edo State to go after Faith Omodon in the farm and kidnap her to enable them collect ransom from her rich father with the promise of paying them #30,000.00.

“The suspects further confessed that they were resisted by Faith Omodon, and in the process they strangulated her to death

“On 07/05/2024 at about 2100rhs, the operatives stormed Iru Community and arrested the native doctor, Chukwuyem Jonah.

“Investigation has commenced in order to recover her corpse, and suspects charged to court.

“The Commissioner of Police Edo State, CP Funsho Adegboye, mni, advised parents and guardians to monitor their children anywhere they go to and the kinds of friends they keep. He noted that, the atmosphere is so dangerous these days.”
