The American International School of Abuja (AISA) has agreed to refund a total of $760,910.84 to the Federal Government following a request made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This was contained in a letter dated 24th of October, 2022 and addressed to the chairman of EFCC.

AISA admitted receiving the sum of $845,852 from Yahaya Bello after the school signed an agreement with him to accept payment in advance for his five children, including one that was too young to be enrolled in school at the time in 2021.

The school however said that part of the money received from Bello had been used to defray costs associated with the attendance of school by the Bello’s children for the subsisting academic calendar.

The school will only refund the money paid for future years amounting to $760,910.84.

Yahaya Bello is currently being sought for trial over corruption and mismanagement of state resources.
