Truck crashes into multiple vehicles at Army checkpoint in Enugu, many lives lost (video)

A heavy-duty truck which experienced brake failure has just crashed into a queue of vehicles at an Army checkpoint in Enugu, killing dozens of people.

Eyewitnesses reported that some vehicles were waiting in line to pass through the checkpoint mounted by men of the Nigerian Army at Ugwu Onyeama in Enugu State along the Enugu-Onitsha federal highway when the tragedy struck.

About 10 vehicles both private and commercial buses were affected and about 25 people were said to have lost their lives while many more sustained various kinds of injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

“A trailer plying the newly constructed lane failed brake and smashed more than 10 cars both private cars and commercial buses.

“The army checkpoint at that axis continues to claim lives.

“More than 25 persons lost their lives instantly and many rushed to the hospital,” one of the eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters.

A video of the incident shared with SaharaReporters shows the bodies of victims scattered on the road. Some vehicles including a petrol tanker truck were seen plunged into a nearby ditch. Some cars were seen smashed beyond recognition.
