A yet-to-be-identified motorcycle operator was killed, and two others sustained severe injuries after a speeding vehicle collided with three commercial motorcyclists on Liasu Road in the Idimu area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when police officers in a minibus attempted to intercept a vehicle suspected to belong to internet fraudsters.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver sped off recklessly from the Ile-Iwe axis toward the Council bus stop to evade capture, ultimately losing control of the vehicle and ramming into the motorcyclists.
One rider died instantly at the scene, while the remaining two injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Following the collision, the driver and other occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
The fatal crash triggered a protest by commercial motorcycle operators along the Powerline and Liasu road corridors, who temporarily suspended operations to demand justice for their colleagues.
The strike left many residents stranded throughout Sunday before normalcy returned later in the evening.
The deceased motorcyclist has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites, while the vehicle was towed to a nearby police station.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that she was not yet aware of the incident but promised to investigate and revert.
