“They handcuffed and extorted over ₦300k from me”: Lady cries out after night ordeal with police officers in Victoria Island

A young Nigerian lady has raised an alarm on social media, accusing police officers in Lagos State of intimidation, illegal detention, and extorting over ₦300,000 from her during a late-night encounter in Victoria Island.
In a video circulating widely across social media platforms, the visibly shaken victim was seen weeping by the roadside at night as she detailed her ordeal at the hands of the security operatives.
Victim details late-night detention and forced transfer
Recounting the incident, the young woman explained that she was stopped and detained by officers while returning from a beach outing in the coastal commercial hub.
She alleged that the officers forcibly placed her in handcuffs and drove her around before eventually abandoning her in the Victoria Island area after taking the money.
“She claimed she attempted to record the entire encounter using her mobile phone, but the video failed to save onto her device,” according to online reports accompanying the clip.
Frantic efforts to meet extortion demands
Desperate to secure her release, the victim revealed that she spent hours reaching out to friends and acquaintances, pleading for urgent financial transfers to satisfy the officers’ demands.
She explained that despite reaching out to multiple associates asking for small contributions to raise the sum, none were able to assist. Ultimately, her mother—despite recent personal disagreements between them—step in and transferred the funds to secure her safety.
As the video continues to gather reactions online, public calls have mounted for the Lagos State Police Command and the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU) to launch an immediate investigation and identify the officers involved.
