Popular Nigerian comedian and film producer Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has issued an unreserved public apology to fans following the disruption of the Cardiff leg of his “AY Live: Single and Not Searching” UK tour.

A UK-based Nigerian with the X handle, @ekybabe, had taken to the platform to call out the comedian for standing them up at the concert.

She said many up and coming stars kept mounting the stage, while assuring the audience that AY, the main act was still coming up later.

The aggrieved concert-goer said they realised too late that AY was not coming.

The event, scheduled for Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Valegate Retail Park in Culverhouse Cross, ended in confusion after attendees waited hours without the main acts taking the stage.

Confusion, police presence, and audience outrage

According to eyewitness accounts, fans began arriving at 4:00 PM for the show billed to start at 4:30 PM. However, as hours passed with no performance commencing, frustration escalated into heated arguments among attendees, venue operators, and local staff.

The atmosphere eventually prompted a police presence at the scene as disgruntled ticket holders demanded answers before abandoning the venue.

AY breaks silence: Payment dispute to blame

Releasing a statement alongside a video explanation on Monday, October 26, AY clarified that he and his fellow performing comedians had travelled to Cardiff and were physically present at the venue.

He explained that an unresolved financial dispute with local event organisers and UK tour managers prevented them from entering the stage on time.

“To everyone who bought tickets and came out to see us in Cardiff, I sincerely apologise for the disappointment you experienced. Your time, money and support deserve respect,” AY said.

“My fellow comedians and I travelled to Cardiff to perform and eventually entered the venue. Unfortunately, unresolved payment commitments delayed our appearance, and by the time we arrived at the hall, most of the audience had left.”

Calls for refunds and upcoming UK tour dates

AY urged the UK tour management and local organisers to immediately issue a clear resolution for affected attendees, specifically calling for prompt refund processing.

“You deserved a properly organised show and timely information. You should never have been caught in the middle of a payment dispute,” he added. “I am calling on the organisers and our UK tour management to provide a clear resolution for ticket holders, including refund information.”

Despite the setback in Cardiff, AY confirmed that the remaining legs of the UK tour will proceed as planned.
