Popular social commentator and businessman Isaac Fayose has sparked public debate after claiming he transferred ₦1 million to Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.

In a video shared on social media, Fayose stated that he launched a cash giveaway initiative asking interested Nigerians to submit their bank details for a chance to receive financial support.

According to Fayose, the call attracted over 10,000 entries, including responses from supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayose targets ruling party supporters over economic realities

Fayose revealed that among the submissions was bank details belonging to Olayinka. He explained that he deliberately fulfilled the ₦1 million transfer to the government official to highlight that public figures and supporters of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are equally affected by prevailing economic pressures.

“I told people to drop their account numbers for 1 million and APC supporters are also dropping their accounts. Wike’s SA, Lere Olayinka, also dropped his account number and I sent 1M Naira to him. This is to show that APC supporters are hungry. They are all supporting this government but still hungry,” Fayose stated in the video.

Shared economic burdens across political divides

Fayose questioned why defenders of the current administration would participate in public giveaway exercises if the economy were performing as strongly as claimed.

He emphasized that political alignment offers no insulation from market realities, noting that both supporters and critics of the government purchase fuel at the same rates, utilize the same public health infrastructure, and navigate identical economic challenges across the country.
