Family members of a missing woman identified as Esther Jonathan have raised the alarm over her alleged abduction while commuting to work in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The victim reportedly vanished after boarding a commercial vehicle in the Jikwoyi area of Karu, Abuja, on Monday morning, October 12, 2026. The incident was brought to public attention through statements shared by Kaduna-based civil society activist Atyotiyap.

Abductors demand N5 million ransom

According to Jonathan’s brother, suspected kidnappers established telephone contact with the family shortly after her disappearance, demanding a sum of ₦5 million in exchange for her release.

To substantiate the claim, the family made available an audio recording featuring a phone conversation between Jonathan’s sister and individuals alleged to be holding her captive. Relatives are currently coordinating with local contacts in the area to gather additional details and track developments.

Family appeals for police intervention

The matter has officially been reported to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation and trace tracking.

The family issued an urgent call to security agencies, including the police, to leverage emergency tracking systems to pinpoint the victim’s location, apprehend the suspects, and secure her safe return.

Relatives have also asked members of the public possessing relevant details or suspicious sightings along the Jikwoyi-Karu transit axis to contact law enforcement authorities immediately.
