A female passenger lost her life on Saturday evening in a fatal road traffic crash along the Agbara-Lusada Expressway at Cashier Bus Stop, located in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. when a commercial motorcycle rider attempted to overtake a heavy-duty truck, causing the unidentified woman to lose her balance and fall directly under the moving vehicle.
Overtaking manoeuvre leads to fatal accident
Confirming the incident, Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), disclosed that the crash involved a white Howo truck with registration number T-34611LA and two commercial motorcycles operating without displayed registration plates.
Eye witnesses and traffic officials attribute the cause of the fatal crash to reckless and improper overtaking by the motorcycle rider.
Five individuals were involved in the accident (three males and two females).
One male and one female sustained varying degrees of injury and were rushed to a nearby medical facility by bystanders prior to the arrival of first responders.
Fatalities: The female passenger died on the spot from severe injuries sustained beneath the truck.
Traffic restored as police initiate investigation
Operatives from TRACE alongside PAPA OSCAR emergency responders cleared the obstruction to restore the normal flow of traffic along the busy Agbara-Lusada transport corridor.
The family of the deceased retrieved her remains from the crash site, while the involved Howo truck was taken into police custody for further legal and safety investigations.
