Joshua James Lozano, a 42-year-old hospital employee, collapsed during his initial court appearance in Phoenix, Arizona, upon hearing he could spend up to a century behind bars for child exploitation charges.
The dramatic collapse occurred on Monday, September 14, 2026, following his arrest last Thursday by Glendale Police.
Investigation and court collapse
Glendale Police initiated their investigation after receiving a referral from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding explicit material accessed through Lozano’s internet service provider.
Investigators linked an account, a contact number, and an IP address directly to the hospital worker, leading to his arrest.
During the arraignment, Maricopa County Prosecutor Ashley Stetson noted that Lozano faces 10 consecutive felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, with each count carrying a 10-year prison sentence. Hearing that he faced a cumulative 100-year sentence, Lozano fainted on the spot, forcing the court to pause proceedings so medical personnel could evaluate him.
Bail conditions and next court date
Despite defense attorney Michael Tamou requesting a lower $50,000 bond citing local community ties, the judge granted the prosecutor’s request and set bail at $150,000.
Under the terms of his release conditions should he post bail, Lozano is barred from contacting any minors, using smartphones, or accessing the internet, and must wear an electronic monitoring device.
He is scheduled to return to court on September 21, 2026.
