A 40-foot container-laden truck suffered brake failure and rammed into highway demarcation blocks and multiple vehicles at the exit of Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in an official statement released via its X handle on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Traffic backlog and secondary crash

The initial brake failure caused the container truck to hit concrete barriers and smash into surrounding vehicles at the Kara Bridge exit, causing significant traffic buildup extending back to New Garage.

LASTMA reported a secondary accident on Kara Bridge heading inward toward Mowe, where a fully loaded trailer collided with a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

LASTMA and police response

Recovery operations and vehicle evacuations are currently underway at both crash sites.

LASTMA traffic officials, alongside personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, have been deployed to secure the corridor, control traffic, and restore normal movement.

The agency appealed to motorists and commuters trapped in the gridlock to exercise patience as emergency recovery crews work to clear the obstructions.
