Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, has stated that early investors in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals initial public offering (IPO) could potentially become millionaires within one to two years if market conditions drive up the company’s share value.

Speaking in an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Dangote expressed strong confidence in the refinery’s growth potential following its public listing on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).

Refinery share valuation and dollar dividends

The initial public offering, valued at N2.15 trillion, opened on September 14, 2026, offering 4.1 billion ordinary shares at N525 per share. Dangote projected that market demand could eventually see share prices rise significantly.

Dangote noted that while shares are currently priced at N525, strong market performance could drive valuation up to between N5,000 and N10,000 per share.

Under such growth scenarios, an initial investment of N100,000 could appreciate into over N1 million within 12 to 24 months.

Dangote advised investors to hold their positions long-term rather than selling early, highlighting that dividends paid in foreign currency would protect local investors against naira devaluation.

Financial performance and market impact

The IPO opened to massive market demand on Monday, attracting billions of naira in subscriptions within minutes of launch.

The refinery reported N19.47 trillion in revenue for the first half of 2026, with profit after tax reaching N2.55 trillion. At the N525 offer price, the company’s implied market capitalisation stands at approximately N65.22 trillion.

Designed as a “People’s IPO,” the minimum entry barrier is set at 10 shares (N5,250), making it accessible to retail investors, civil servants, students, and artisans alongside institutional buyers. The offer closes on October 13, 2026.

Dangote revealed plans to eventually list all operating companies within the Dangote Group, targeting a combined group market capitalisation of at least $350 billion by 2030, with primary listings on the NGX followed by dual global listings.

Stakeholder reactions

Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Refinery, David Bird, noted that the facility has established itself as the single largest supplier of refined petroleum products into Europe while pursuing its Vision 2030 target of becoming the world’s largest integrated refinery complex.

Key leaders praised the public offering:

Umaru Kwairanga (Chairman, NGX Group): Termed the transaction a defining milestone, proving African capital can fund mega-scale industrial projects.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Governor, Lagos State): Stated the IPO expands wealth creation options for small business owners, market traders, and tech entrepreneurs alike.

Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi II (Ooni of Ife): Commended the low minimum entry threshold of N5,250 for opening national wealth participation to everyday citizens.

According to Bloomberg estimates, the successful execution of the refinery IPO could boost Aliko Dangote’s net worth by $22.9 billion, bringing his total net worth to approximately $58.2 billion.
