The wife of Delta State content creator and socialite Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as Odogwu Asaba, has broken her silence regarding the rape allegations involving the late 20-year-old nursing student, Favour Agbro.
It would be recalled that Agbro was found to have taken her own life after complications arising from an alleged rape incident.
The late nurse claimed in a video she left behind that Odogwu Asaba lured her into a hotel room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
In a video posted to her Odogwu Asaba’s social media page, his wife insisted that while her husband engaged in an extramarital affair with Favour, he did not rape or cause her death.
Addressing allegations that her husband sexually assaulted the young woman before she took her own life, she stated that she had deliberately delayed making a public statement to process the matter appropriately.
Reaffirming her devotion to their eight-year marriage and four children, she pledged to support him throughout the legal proceedings.
“No matter what happened, Odogwu Asaba is my husband, and I stand with him 100%. Nothing is going to turn my back on him,” she said. “Odogwu Asaba did not kill anybody. Odogwu Asaba did not rape Favour. Odogwu Asaba only had an affair with the girl.”
Rejection of rape allegations and appeal for due process
Rejecting claims that her husband resorted to sexual violence, she argued that his social standing made force unnecessary, claiming women routinely sought intimacy with him. She maintained that even prior to gaining public prominence, he had never been involved in sexual assault allegations.
Cautioning the public against making summary judgments on social media, she urged commentators to allow the law to take its course.
“Social media is not a courtroom. People should bear that in mind, and we don’t do these things with emotions,” she remarked, indicating that her husband would present his own account of events upon his release.
Background to the case and police action
The controversy follows the arrest of Ifeanyi Ogbonna by the Delta State Police Command following a petition by the deceased’s family.
According to law enforcement reports, Favour Agbro travelled from Warri to Asaba after Ogbonna allegedly offered to assist her with social media content creation and monetisation. Police allege he subsequently took her to a hotel, where he sexually assaulted her.
Prior to her death, Favour recorded a video documenting the alleged assault and emotional distress, which circulated widely online before she ingested a toxic substance and succumbed at a medical facility.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed that Ogbonna remains in custody and will be formally charged in court as investigations continue.
