“Nothing bad will happen to me” — Yinka Quadri recounts Ogogo’s final hospital words
Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has shared a moving account of his final moments with his closest confidant and screen partner, the late Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Reflecting on a friendship that spanned 42 years, Quadri revealed how the late actor attempted to comfort him from his hospital bed, offering words of reassurance even as his health faltered.
Quadri recalled breaking down in tears upon seeing Ogogo’s frail state, only for his longtime friend to console him.
According to Quadri, Ogogo looked at him and said, “Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me,” to which Quadri responded with an encouraging amen.
A final moment of hope in the hospital room
Describing the bedside interaction, Quadri noted that Ogogo asked for a bottle of water, drank from it, and proudly pointed out to the attending medical team that he had successfully eaten his breakfast earlier that morning.
The doctors confirmed Ogogo’s slight improvement to Quadri, advising the family to remain steadfast in prayer.
Quadri explained that seeing his friend eat and drink gave him a sudden surge of hope and faith that Ogogo would pull through his illness.
Overcoming friction and accepting the inevitable
Reflecting on the history of their relationship, Quadri revealed that their bond began in 1984 and weathered numerous external attempts by third parties to drive a wedge between them. He emphasised that despite public speculation or industry rivalries over the decades, their mutual trust remained intact until Ogogo’s final breath.
Concluding his tribute, Quadri expressed the profound grief of losing a brother, acknowledging that while Ogogo was not ready to leave his family, children, and millions of admirers, the outcome ultimately rests in divine hands.
