Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a local businessman, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed Keche, in Dabi Bako, located within the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The incident occurred on Monday evening as the victim was returning home shortly after completing his evening (Isha’i) prayers at a local mosque near his residence.
According to community sources, the operation was executed with high precision. Two armed operatives reportedly positioned themselves around the mosque grounds while other members of the gang waited nearby in an unmarked vehicle with tinted windows.
As Yusuf Mohammed Keche exited the building, the gunmen confronted him, forced him into the waiting vehicle at gunpoint, and sped off while firing sporadically into the air.
Eyewitnesses suspect pre-planned surveillance and local informants
Local residents described the abductors’ actions as a coordinated strike, suggesting the victim had been monitored prior to the incident.
A neighbor whose home borders the mosque noted that he initially mistook the sound of gunfire for an electrical fault before realizing an armed abduction was taking place.
Another business owner in the area reported seeing a motorcycle operator acting suspiciously near the mosque during prayer services, raising concerns among residents that an informant was tracking Keche’s movements.
Keche, a prominent local figure involved in real estate and regional politics, lives in the area with his two wives.
Law enforcement response
As of Thursday, August 27, 2026, the abductors have yet to make formal contact with the family or issue a ransom demand.
When contacted regarding the incident, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that she had not yet received an official report on the Kwali abduction and promised to consult with the Kwali Police Division to verify details and initiate appropriate operational measures.
