Family accuses extortionists of exploiting veteran actor Ogogo’s stage-four cancer battle

Kira Taiwo, daughter of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan (popularly known as Ogogo), has raised an alarm over individuals attempting to exploit her father’s severe health crisis for financial gain.
In an emotional TikTok live session, Kira disclosed that while the 66-year-old actor battles stage-four cancer, several individuals offering potential remedies have demanded exorbitant sums ranging from ₦800,000 to over $18,000.
“Some people are even trying to make money with us in this whole situation. Fear God,” Kira said. “This one will come and bring a solution—₦800k, ₦5m, $11,000, $18,000. Do you want to make us broke? We are not billionaires.”
Emotional toll on the family
Kira revealed that the stress has taken a heavy physical and emotional toll on her own health and deeply distressed her father’s brother. She shared that her uncle was left devastated in a family group chat after learning of the severity of the diagnosis and asking if his brother was going to die.
The family explained that the illness progressed rapidly over three weeks, prompting hospitals to halt further chemotherapy treatments.
Direct clarification: medical assistance needed, not cash
Clarifying earlier Instagram appeals made by herself and her sister, Lima Taiwo, Kira emphasised that the family is not seeking public monetary donations. Instead, they are urgently appealing for access to specialised medical care:
Medical Specialists & Treatment: The family is searching for medical professionals, facilities, or alternative oncological experts capable of managing advanced cancer or resuming chemotherapy.
Acknowledged Support: Kira expressed gratitude to Senator Olamilekan Adeola (popularly known as Senator Yayi) for stepping in to foot the actor’s medical bills up to this point.
With a career spanning over four decades and more than 300 films, Ogogo remains one of Yoruba cinema’s most prominent figures. The family continues to request contacts for viable medical interventions to save his life.
