A 14-year-old girl abducted in Kaduna State has regained her freedom following a three-month ordeal in captivity and a ₦5 million ransom payment.
The victim’s release was disclosed by Reuben Buhari, a journalist and former media aide to the late Kaduna State Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, in a statement shared on social media.
Details of the abduction and ordeal
According to Buhari, the minor was kidnapped alongside her elder sister three months ago. The victims were forced to trek for three days through rural terrain to reach the bandits’ hideout.
In addition to the physical strain, the 14-year-old was subjected to repeated sexual abuse during her entire period in captivity:
Duration: Held in captivity for three months alongside her elder sister.
Conditions of release: Freed after her family paid a ₦5 million ransom and provided four motorcycles to the captors.
Medical status: The victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing psychological recuperation. Initial medical examinations revealed no lasting physical injuries.
The incident highlights the continued toll of mass abductions on rural families and minors across northern states, where families are routinely forced to raise steep monetary ransoms and items to secure the release of captives.
