Bride arrested for allegedly poisoning husband’s food 40 days after wedding

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old housewife, Aisha Musa, following an alleged attempt to murder her husband by poisoning his food barely 40 days after their marriage.

The incident occurred in Gwamma village, located within the Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Details of the incident and police response

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, SP Nafiu Habib, the suspect allegedly mixed a poisonous substance into her husband’s meal.

Key events from the police report include:

Distress call: Police received an emergency alert from an anonymous female caller residing in the Wunti Dada area of Bauchi, notifying authorities of the poisoning.

Rapid mobilisation: Operatives from the ‘C’ Division (Tafawa Balewa Estate) responded to the scene to secure the area and assist the victim.

Medical emergency: The husband was evacuated and rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi. Medical personnel reported that he was admitted for treatment and stabilised.

Evidence secured: Police recovered remnants of the contaminated meal along with an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poisonous substance, registering both as exhibits.

Investigation and legal proceedings

Following her arrest, the suspect voluntarily provided a confessional statement admitting to the crime during police interrogation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation. 

The police confirmed that Aisha Musa will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing inquiry.
