The Nigerian film industry has been hit with grief following the sudden death of veteran Yoruba movie star, Temitope Osoba, who died at the age of 40.
Her passing was confirmed on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after fellow actor Alesh Sanni took to his verified Instagram page to share the heartbreaking news.
Describing the late actress as a beloved sister figure with whom he shared cherished professional and personal memories, Sanni revealed that the tragic news kept him up all night.
“Couldn’t sleep since last night, it’s well. Rest in peace my dearest sister, Temitope Osoba. We had amazing time and good memories together, till we meet again. I really dunno what to say mehn, gosh,” he posted.
Reacting to the loss, actress Adeyemo Seilat also mourned the late film practitioner on social media, expressing sadness over the recurring death of young creatives in the entertainment sector.
“Sigh! I hate to hear about the death of young people. Life is vanity! Rest in peace Tope Osoba. May you find eternal rest,” Seilat wrote on her page.
While the exact cause of her demise remains unconfirmed by her immediate family, the sad event comes nearly two years after the late actress publicly sought public assistance and prayers during a severe fight against cancer.
A fierce fight against cancer and a brief return to the screen
Osoba’s passing is particularly painful for fans who tracked her courageous journey back to health.
Exactly one year before her death, on August 4, 2025, the actress made an emotional announcement declaring herself cancer-free and ready to rebuild her movie career.
In a statement addressed to her followers at the time, she framed her ordeal as a life-altering experience that renewed her passion for acting and advocacy.
“Dear beloved fans, supporters, and loved ones, I’m Temitope Osoba, and after my cancer experience, I’m excited to announce my reintroduction. This journey has been a turning point, leading to my rebranding, reshaping, and rebuilding. I’m emerging stronger, more resilient, and more passionate about sharing my story and inspiring others,” she stated.
She had also revealed plans to launch a cancer awareness campaign to aid other victims, while actively pursuing brand endorsements and new acting roles following her medical recovery.
Loved for her standout performances in numerous indigenous Yoruba productions, Osoba was widely respected across Nollywood for her talent and dedication to her craft.
