BBNaija winner Phyna files ₦500m defamation lawsuit against Carter Efe over sex claim
Former Big Brother Naija winner Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has taken legal action against content creator Carter Efe and internet streamer Davrel, seeking ₦500 million in damages over alleged defamatory sexual claims.
The legal battle stems from a series of escalating online altercations that culminated in public claims regarding Phyna’s personal life.
How the online altercation escalated
The feud initially broke out after streamer Davrel alleged that Carter Efe had made disparaging remarks about Phyna. The situation deteriorated further when Phyna publicly called out Davrel over an alleged unfulfilled debt.
In response, Davrel levelled personal accusations against Phyna, claiming she had made unsolicited romantic advances toward him.
The conflict reached a boiling point during a widely shared video exchange between Phyna and Carter Efe:
Phyna directly challenged Carter Efe over rumours he was circulating, asking: “Me and you f*ck?”
Carter Efe asserted that they had been intimate, replying: “Yes. I will bring the whole evidence come outside.”
Phyna immediately rejected the assertion, replying: “Thank you very much. You and Davrel will hear from my lawyer.”
Phyna addresses fans on Instagram live
Addressing her supporters during an Instagram Live session, the reality TV star confirmed that formal legal notices had been served to both content creators via email and messaging apps.
Expressing regret over past online altercations, Phyna stated that she is shifting her approach to handle disputes strictly through legal frameworks rather than engaging in social media spats.
“I have stood different kinds of drags, but there are two types of drags that I can’t stand. One is what everybody knows, and the other one is a sexual and man issue. I do not move that way,” Phyna explained during her broadcast.
She added:
“This is the end of that Phyna because, at last, I’m finally learning how to use legal means… So, Carter Efe and Davrel, check your emails and WhatsApp. You’ve been served.”
A shift in reputation management
Phyna noted that while her energetic streaming personality was often misinterpreted by online audiences, she will no longer tolerate statements that attack her character.
With legal proceedings formally initiated, neither Carter Efe nor Davrel has issued a public response to the ₦500 million claim.
