The viral frenzy surrounding popular men’s relationship commentator Emmanuel “GehGeh” Obruste and his alleged secret wedding has finally been put to rest after behind-the-scenes video footage confirmed the ceremony was staged for a film production.
Over the weekend, Nigerian social media erupted when clips surfaced showing the influencer clad in wine-colored traditional attire alongside a bride in matching outfits, dancing, cutting a cake, and taking photos before family members and guests.
The clips triggered intense online backlash, with followers accusing the founder of “GehGeh University” of hypocrisy for getting married despite years of creating content that warned men against marriage and financial commitments in relationships.
Behind-the-scenes video clears the air
However, newly surfaced video footage from the set has laid the rumours to rest, establishing that the traditional marriage setup was entirely part of a movie shoot rather than a real-life wedding.
The behind-the-scenes clip shows camera crews, lighting equipment, and directors calling shots during the production process, confirming that GehGeh was acting in a scripted role.
Gehgeh’s manager uploaded a video of himself accompanying the content creator to Abuja, from where they caught another flight to the movie location.
Gehgeh’s aide in his “A day in the life of Gehgeh’s Manager” captured the marriage scene, referring to it as a movie set.
He also showed how the team went to a nightclub afterwards to unwind.
Further checks on YouTube show that the movie is already uploaded for viewers.
It appeared that Gehgeh deliberately misled the public into believing the wedding narrative to drive conversations and, consequently, awareness for the new movie, which also features Nosa Rex Okunzuwa, widely known as Baba Rex, among others.
Before the film footage cleared up the situation, GehGeh had fueled the public speculation on his X (formerly Twitter) account by challenging followers to produce proof where he explicitly instructed men never to marry.
“I never for once told you all not to get married. Did I? If yes, show me a video of me telling you not to marry,” he wrote during the peak of the debate, adding to the confusion before the movie production details were revealed.
Backlash over personal attacks
During the height of the viral debate, several users crossed the line by targeting the physical appearance of the actress playing his bride in the video.
GehGeh reacted strongly to the online insults aimed at his co-star, warning users to keep her out of the conflict: “I can take everything y’all are saying to me, but don’t ever say my wife looks like Bobrisky.”
