The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cleared the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, of any involvement in an ongoing visa racketeering scandal within the agency.
In a statement released on Monday by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency dismissed reports linking the NIS boss to the scam, describing them as false and misleading.
While confirming that several officers within the Nigeria Immigration Service are currently under investigation for alleged visa fraud, the EFCC emphasised that the Comptroller-General is not connected to the case.
“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG,” the statement read, adding that “the Immigration CG is not remotely connected to these investigations.”
According to the Commission, some NIS officers are already standing trial before the Federal High Court over their involvement in the syndicate. The agency noted that deeper inquiries are underway to uncover the full scale of the operation, warning that more personnel found culpable will soon face arraignment.
The EFCC urged media organisations to verify investigative leads before publication to avoid misrepresenting facts and misleading the public.
The anti-graft agency maintained that its primary focus remains on dismantling the fraud network and holding the implicated officers accountable.
