The senior pastor of Elba Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, America, Da’Quarius Green, has allegedly been shot dead by his wife. He was aged 31.
The church confirmed Green’s death in a Facebook post on December 27, 2025, describing his passing as a painful loss to the congregation and community.
“With heavy hearts yet unwavering faith, we share that our beloved Pastor Da’Quarius Green has transitioned from this earthly life into eternal rest,” the church wrote.
According to local authorities, Pastor Green was involved in a domestic incident that occurred on December 23 in the Freedom Heights neighbourhood off Rucker Boulevard in Level Plains, Alabama.
The Dale County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Green sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and later died in hospital on Saturday, December 27.
Law enforcement officials stated that the shooting took place inside a residence during a dispute involving a woman whose identity has not been publicly disclosed.
As of the time of reporting, no arrests have been made, and investigators have not announced any formal charges, suggesting the possibility that the incident is being treated as self-defence. The case remains under investigation.
Speculation surrounding the incident intensified on social media, with a post by gospel news outlet Gospel Artist Entertainment alleging that Green’s estranged wife, Quintaria Massey, was involved.
The outlet claimed the shooting occurred in self-defence, though authorities have not confirmed this information.
Public records indicate that Pastor Green had faced three misdemeanour domestic violence charges in 2024.
Those cases were dismissed after the alleged victim declined to testify. In a previously filed protection order, a woman alleged repeated physical abuse, including an incident that occurred during pregnancy.
It remains unclear whether the complainant in that case is connected to the fatal shooting.
Despite the controversy surrounding his death, tributes have continued to pour in from family members, colleagues, and church leaders. Minister DiVonta Palmer, a close friend, described Green as a devoted man of faith who loved God and his family.
“He was human. A man of God. A father. A husband. He did not deserve to die,” Palmer said.
Pastor Green frequently shared moments of fatherhood on social media, reflecting his pride in his children. His passing has sparked renewed conversations about domestic violence, accountability, and the complexities of leadership within faith communities.
Before this incident, precisely on May 29, 2025, Quintaria Massey had taken to Facebook to announce that she filed for a divorce two weeks earlier.
She wrote: “I keep ppl out of my personal business but yes, I FILED for divorce 2 weeks ago. God bless you all that have called and texted me. Cheers to a new journey!!!”
