Plus-size female NYSC member alleges PPA rejected her over body size

A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has stirred conversations on social media after alleging that her Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) turned her away because of her body size.
The allegation emerged in a viral video posted online, showing the corps member dressed in her NYSC uniform. The video featured a caption expressing emotional distress, suggesting she had been deeply affected by the experience.
Corps member shares discrimination claim
In an accompanying on-screen message, the corps member claimed the rejection was based on her physical appearance rather than her abilities.
She wrote:
“Not going to lie, getting rejected by my PPA because of my body stung. It’s hard facing discrimination in a programme meant to unite us. But I’m keeping my head high. My capacity to serve and succeed doesn’t depend on a scale.”
The corps member did not identify the organisation involved or provide additional details about the alleged incident. As a result, the circumstances surrounding the rejection could not be independently verified.
Mixed reactions trail viral video
The allegation has generated widespread reactions on social media, with users expressing differing opinions over whether the incident amounted to discrimination.
While some sympathised with the corps member and argued that no one should be judged by physical appearance, others questioned whether additional facts had not been disclosed.
Several commenters also urged her to seek clarification from NYSC authorities if she believed she had been unfairly treated.
Others, however, argued that conclusions should not be drawn until more information about the circumstances becomes available.
NYSC yet to respond
As of the time of filing this report, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had not issued any official statement regarding the allegation.
The identity of the PPA involved also remains unknown, and there is currently no independent evidence confirming that the rejection was due to the corps member’s body size.
The claim therefore remains unverified pending any official response or further information.
