A TikTok content creator was escorted to safety by Metropolitan Police officers after he was surrounded by a large crowd of angry England supporters while wearing an Argentina football shirt in central London following England’s World Cup semi-final defeat.

The incident occurred in the Piccadilly Circus area on Wednesday night shortly after England lost 2-1 to Argentina, ending the Three Lions’ hopes of reaching the tournament final.

Videos circulating on social media show police officers forming a protective cordon around the prankster, identified online as Maciej, as supporters shouted at him. Officers repeatedly ordered the crowd to stay back while leading him away from the scene.

The TikToker, who has more than 220,000 followers, was eventually escorted into a police van as officers prevented members of the crowd from getting close to him. Some supporters were heard chanting anti-Lionel Messi slogans, while others booed as the vehicle left the area.

Earlier videos posted on Maciej’s TikTok account showed him approaching England fans while wearing the Argentina jersey. In one clip, he identified himself as being from Argentina after being questioned by supporters, prompting some members of the crowd to tell him to leave the area.

At one point, a security staff member and later police officers intervened to prevent the situation from escalating. There is no indication that either the TikToker or the England supporters were arrested or accused of any offence during the incident.

The social media personality is known for creating prank videos in which he deliberately provokes football supporters by wearing rival teams’ shirts.

Disorder reported in London, Manchester and Atlanta

The London incident was one of several disturbances reported after England’s semi-final defeat.

In Manchester, videos showed Greater Manchester Police officers restraining a man in the middle of a busy road as a large crowd gathered around them. Officers used batons to keep onlookers at a distance while attempting to control the situation.

Across the Atlantic in Atlanta, where the match was played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, police also responded to clashes involving rival supporters after the final whistle. Reports indicated that several people were detained as officers separated England and Argentina fans outside the stadium.

Tensions had reportedly been heightened before and during the match by exchanges between rival supporters over the Falkland Islands, with disagreements continuing after the game ended.

Police have not released details of any injuries linked to the incidents.
