Francis Nwaze, media aide to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has challenged those making allegations against the minister to back their claims with credible evidence.
His remarks come amid growing public attention over the death of 26-year-old physiotherapist Mary Habila, who reportedly died at the minister’s residence.
The incident has triggered widespread calls for an independent investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The case has continued to generate intense debate across Nigeria, with many citizens and civil society groups urging the relevant authorities to conduct a transparent and impartial inquiry.
Habila’s planned burial was recently suspended after activists and other concerned stakeholders requested that an autopsy be carried out before she is laid to rest.
Reacting to the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday night, Nwaze cautioned against what he described as unverified accusations directed at the Minister of Works.
According to him, anyone making allegations has a responsibility to present verifiable facts rather than rely on speculation. He also suggested that political interests could be influencing some of the claims circulating online.
“He who alleges must prove. Before making claims simply because you have a phone and can type, ensure you have credible evidence to support them,” Nwaze wrote.
He further stated:
“Being an Obidient, or being sponsored by a politician to make unfounded allegations, does not grant anyone immunity from the responsibility to tell the truth or substantiate their claims.”
The circumstances surrounding Mary Habila’s death remain under public scrutiny, while many Nigerians continue to await the outcome of investigations expected to clarify the events leading to the incident.
