A woman identified as Maureen Chinaka, who was seen being brutally assaulted in a viral video from Aba, Abia State, has spoken publicly about the incident, alleging that the attack stemmed from her refusal to engage in a sexual relationship with the suspect.
Speaking during an interview with human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu, Amarachi claimed that the suspect, identified as Agwu Ukpo, had repeatedly pressured her to have an intimate relationship with him.
According to her, she consistently rejected his advances, reminding him that she was a married woman and committed to her husband. She alleged that her refusal led to lingering resentment and hostility from the suspect.
Amarachi explained that tensions between them eventually escalated following a disagreement involving a pot of soup. She claimed the argument was used as an excuse for the violent attack that followed.
The disturbing assault was recorded on video and later circulated widely on social media, attracting widespread condemnation from Nigerians who demanded justice for the victim and stricter action against perpetrators of gender-based violence.
The victim, who currently lives in Lagos, said she intends to return to Abia State to formally cooperate with investigators and provide a statement to the police.
She stressed that she is seeking justice and wants the matter thoroughly investigated so that those responsible can be held accountable under the law.
The viral footage has reignited conversations about violence against women and the need for stronger protection and enforcement measures to address cases of physical assault and harassment.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the incident as public interest in the case grows.
