A female military officer has taken to social media to express humorous frustration over what she described as civilians being too intimidated to approach or initiate casual conversations with her.
In a viral video, the officer shared her confusion regarding how members of the public interact with her in non-official settings, noting that many civilians appear hesitant to speak to her like a regular person.
Formal greetings create social distance
The officer pointed out that instead of casual pleasantries or friendly introductions, people consistently address her with strict formal titles, which she feels creates an unnecessary wall between her and potential suitors.
“I don’t know what to talk at this point because I’m very confused. I don’t know why some civilians will see me and be afraid to approach me and be afraid to talk to me,” she stated.
Expressing further amusement over the formal barriers, she added: “Una no fit say ‘hi mama’ or call me by my name. Every time ‘Good morning ma’, ‘Good morning ma’, or ‘officer’. Who be officer? Una no fit say ‘mama, can I have your number or can you be my girlfriend?’ Why una dey do me like this?”
