A 27-year-old Nigerian migrant residing in the UK on a student visa, Qudus Ajeyemi, has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison following his conviction for sexual assault and attempted rape.

The convict, Qudus Ajeyemi—locally known by his nickname “Spartan”—faced a week-long trial at the Hull Crown Court that concluded on May 26.

Judge sentencing took place on Monday, June 15, 2026, locking in a multi-year prison term to be followed by automatic deportation to Nigeria.

How Qudus Ajeyemi landed in trouble at Tavistock Street

The prosecution, led by barrister Charlotte Baines, outlined the details of the incident, which occurred following a night out in Hull.

The victim reported the assault to the police in March 2023, describing a traumatic experience that took place weeks prior.

After attending a party and visiting local nightclubs where she became heavily intoxicated, the victim returned to a residence located on Tavistock Street, Hull. Ajeyemi offered her a bedroom to sleep off the effects of the alcohol.

According to the prosecution’s statement to the court:

“Spartan led her upstairs, and she lay down on the bed. She thought that he would leave her there to have a sleep. Within a few seconds, Spartan was touching her.”

The victim repeatedly resisted his advances, pushing him away and stating, “I’m not here for that,” alongside explicit commands to stop.

Despite her protests, Ajeyemi undressed and physically overpowered her, prompting the victim to fight back and flee down the stairs in tears.

Incriminating FaceTime recordings used as evidence

The case against Ajeyemi was heavily fortified by his own actions following the assault. The court heard that the defendant contacted the victim via FaceTime to repeatedly apologise and admit to the misconduct.

Unbeknownst to Ajeyemi, the victim recorded the digital conversations and preserved his text messages begging for forgiveness. These recordings later served as critical, undeniable evidence during the jury trial.

Sentencing, deportation, and lifetime registration

Following his 5.5-year prison sentence, the court handed down several strict long-term penalties:

Lifetime Sex Offenders Register: Ajeyemi has been placed on the UK’s offender registry for life.

Restraining Order: A mandatory seven-year restraining order was issued to protect the victim.

Deportation: The UK Home Office will deport Ajeyemi back to Nigeria immediately upon the completion of his jail term.

Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Ethan Anderson commended the victim’s bravery throughout the investigation, stating that Ajeyemi deliberately preyed on a vulnerable woman in a space where she should have felt safe among acquaintances.
