Panic has gripped residents of the Bwari community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after the decapitated body of an unidentified woman was discovered inside an uncompleted building on Saturday, June 13.

The shocking discovery was made after residents reportedly noticed a foul smell emanating from the abandoned structure and moved in to investigate, only to find the decomposing remains of a middle-aged woman.

Eyewitnesses said the victim’s head was missing, raising alarm among community members who immediately alerted others and contacted security authorities.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the condition of the body suggested the woman may have been killed about two days earlier. According to him, the odour from the building first drew attention to the scene.

“When we entered the building, we found the woman’s body without her head,” the resident said.

Another community member alleged that signs at the scene indicated the victim may have been overpowered before being killed.

He claimed that ropes were found around the body, suggesting she may have been restrained during the attack.

“We saw rope around her body. It looked like she struggled before she was killed,” he said, adding that the level of decomposition suggested the killing happened days earlier.

Residents also noted visible bruises on parts of the body, further fuelling suspicions that the victim may have fought back before her death.

Describing the incident as horrifying, locals expressed concern over rising insecurity in the area, warning that residents now live in fear of violent attacks.

Another resident, Ibrahim Dogo, said bloodstains were seen inside one of the rooms in the uncompleted building, alongside a blood-soaked blanket believed to have been used at the scene.

He speculated that the victim may have been lured into the building before the attack, although this remains unconfirmed by authorities.

Police operatives from the Bwari Divisional Headquarters later evacuated the remains from the scene after receiving a distress call from residents.

A police source confirmed that the body had been taken to Bwari General Hospital, adding that investigations had commenced to identify the victim and uncover the circumstances surrounding the gruesome killing.

Authorities have assured residents that efforts are underway to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.
