A Nigerian woman, Obianuju Ritanwa A Anaeto, has confirmed the end of her marriage after her ex-husband reportedly collected the bride price he paid back from her father at her family home.

The woman disclosed the development in a Facebook post on June 13, 2026, revealing that she and her husband had been separated since May 20, 2023.

According to her, the bride price refund was done yesterday, June 13, bringing closure to a relationship that had already broken down for about three years.

She noted that while the outcome was painful, she had come to accept it as part of her life’s journey.

“Something I wished to be forever didn’t last forever. It’s nothing to be happy about, but it happened. Anything that happens in my life is God’s will,” she wrote.

I’m not happy, she says

In a follow-up post shared about 15 hours later, she further reflected on the separation, stressing that no one enters marriage expecting it to fail.

Obianuju Ritanwa A Anaeto explained that despite her efforts to make the relationship work, the marriage eventually collapsed.

“In life, nobody prays for a failed marriage. But if it’s not working, we can’t help but part ways. Am I happy? No. Did I try my best? Yes,” she stated.

Past is past

The woman also appealed to the public to stop sending her private messages asking about what happened, insisting that she had moved on from the past.

“Past is past. I am not talking about it again. Three years is not three months,” she added.

She further hinted at disappointment in some reactions she received, saying her experience had made her distinguish between “men and boys disguised as men.”

In the post, she also encouraged single women to be mindful, claiming that she had seen “names worth noting,” though she did not provide further details.

The lady also shared screenshots of a private conversation with an individual who claimed to know her estranged husband.

The person reportedly asked what went wrong in the marriage, to which Obianuju said it was a “long story” she would not like to go into.

The individual then claimed they knew the husband beforehand and suggested they would have advised her against the marriage if they had met her earlier.

Public reactions Obianuju Ritanwa A Anaeto’s post

Reactions have continued to trail the post, with some social media users faulting the woman for sharing details of her private life online.

One commenter, Ejiofor Nwachukwu Agada, wrote that her frequent updates suggested she was “letting her life revolve around social media,” while Emma Emeka Anyagwa argued that not everything that happens in life should be attributed to “God’s will,” stressing that individuals still have control over their choices.

Others took a more judgmental tone, with some users questioning what led to the collapse of the marriage.

One commenter, Chikodili Kelvin, suggested that the woman was not suited for marriage and claimed her ex-husband may have “saved himself,” while another user, Itz Gold, insinuated that she may have been unfaithful, a claim made without evidence.

However, a few reactions were more sympathetic or celebratory, with some users congratulating the estranged couple on the formal end of the union and the return of the bride price.

Others encouraged the woman to move on and begin a new chapter, while also advising her to handle future relationships with more discretion.
