A 17-year-old pregnant girl, Jariah Edwards, was allegedly shot and killed by her former boyfriend during a visit to San Diego, in a tragedy that has left family members and friends devastated.

According to police, Edwards, who was approximately 32 weeks pregnant, was in San Diego with relatives over the weekend when she was allegedly attacked by her 21-year-old ex-boyfriend.

Investigators said the suspect drove from Phoenix to San Diego before the fatal shooting.

Authorities said the teenager suffered a gunshot wound and later died from her injuries. Her baby, however, survived and remains hospitalized.

Friends described Edwards as a cheerful, caring and humorous young woman whose death has been difficult to comprehend.

One of her friends, Amara Corley, said the news was heartbreaking and recalled Edwards’ sarcastic sense of humor and ability to make those around her laugh.

Another friend, Jamila Corley, described the teenager as someone with a kind heart and a pure spirit, expressing disbelief that such a tragedy could happen to her.

Those close to Edwards said she had been trying to leave the relationship and was looking forward to becoming a mother.

Friends also noted that she was excited about the future and preparing for the arrival of her child.

Domestic violence advocates have pointed to the case as another example of the dangers associated with abusive relationships and the importance of intervention before violence escalates.

While the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, family members and friends have launched a fundraising campaign to help care for Edwards’ newborn baby and cover funeral expenses.

The case has sparked an outpouring of grief online, with many people paying tribute to the teenager and calling for justice on her behalf.
