A 27-year-old Nigerian student, Qudus Ajeyemi, has been found guilty of attempted rape and sexual assault following an incident involving a woman in Hull, United Kingdom.
Ajeyemi, formerly residing on May Street off Beverley Road in Hull and later in Manchester, was convicted at Hull Crown Court on Friday, May 29, 2026.
He was found guilty of attempted rape by a 10–2 majority verdict and sexual assault by a unanimous decision.
During the trial, the court heard that the incident occurred after a night out involving alcohol and socialising at a party in Hull.
Prosecutors said the victim, who had consumed alcohol and begun feeling unwell, went upstairs in a house to rest.
It was alleged that Ajeyemi followed her upstairs, where he proceeded to touch her without consent despite repeated verbal refusals.
The court was told that he ignored her instructions to stop, removed her underwear, and attempted to force himself on her while restraining her.
The victim managed to resist, eventually breaking free and fleeing downstairs in distress.
Prosecutor Charlotte Baines told the court that the victim’s testimony was “compelling and reliable.”
The court also heard that Ajeyemi later admitted wrongdoing during a FaceTime call with the victim, where he apologised repeatedly and acknowledged his actions were wrong. He also sent follow-up messages asking for forgiveness.
However, in police interviews, Ajeyemi denied the allegations, claiming the encounter involved consensual kissing and cuddling and that he stopped when told to do so.
He had no prior criminal convictions in the UK and was studying as an international student at the time of the incident.
He was remanded in custody after the verdict, having previously been on bail during the trial. Sentencing is expected in the coming weeks.
The victim reportedly delayed reporting the case initially due to concerns about the defendant’s academic and immigration status, but later came forward, stating she feared he might reoffend.
Ajeyemi now awaits sentencing at Hull Crown Court.
