Bandits kill one, abduct other worshippers at Kaduna mosque

Fresh attacks by armed groups in Kogi and Kaduna states have left at least two people dead and dozens abducted, raising renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria.
In Kogi State, suspected terrorists reportedly killed one person and abducted more than 30 others after attacking a commercial bus along the Ayegunle Bunu axis in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area.
The attack occurred at about 2:25 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, when the gunmen allegedly intercepted a commercial vehicle travelling through the community.
According to local reports, two residents of Ayegunle Bunu—a man and a woman—were among those kidnapped during the raid. The remaining victims were said to be passengers aboard the commercial bus.
Details surrounding the identity of the deceased victim and the circumstances of the abduction were still sketchy at the time of reporting.
Bandits Attack Kaduna Mosque
In a separate incident, armed bandits attacked a mosque in Unguwan Namama village, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing a worshipper and abducting several others.
The attack reportedly took place on Friday night, May 29, while residents were observing evening prayers.
The deceased was identified as Adamu Ibraheem. His relative, Abubakar Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a message to the media on Monday.
According to sources, the attackers stormed the area at about 8 p.m. and opened fire on worshippers, leaving several people with gunshot injuries.
Witnesses said the bandits surrounded the community during prayers and began shooting as worshippers exited the mosque, causing panic and confusion among residents.
Several injured victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment, while an unspecified number of people were reportedly taken away by the attackers.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to confirm the exact number of those abducted or injured in the Kaduna attack.
