Police have reportedly arrested two suspects in connection with the movement of a pistol and ammunition allegedly linked to the killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, one of the arrested suspects is believed to be the person who allegedly sent a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Authorities reportedly believe the firearm later became connected to the fatal shooting involving ASP Nuhu Usman.
The suspects were said to have been brought to the Effurun Area Command under the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday night as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Ogidi’s death.
Police authorities have yet to officially confirm the arrests.
However, a source quoted by Vanguard claimed one of the suspects was directly linked to the shipment of the firearm through a transport company from Yenagoa to Effurun.
“It’s confirmed. They just brought in two suspects Wednesday night,” the source reportedly said.
The source further alleged that the victim, popularly known as Mine, picked up the parcel at the motor park before he was allegedly shot by the police officer and others involved.
Investigators are also reportedly trying to determine whether the second suspect is the driver who transported the parcel from Bayelsa.
The case has continued to spark reactions following allegations that Ogidi was extrajudicially killed after being intercepted at the Effurun motor park.
The incident also triggered emotional reactions from members of the victim’s family, especially his mother, who publicly questioned the circumstances surrounding the deaths of her sons.
