Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper after a dramatic chase in Akure that led to the rescue of an abducted victim.

The suspect, identified as Adegbenro Adeola, was arrested after police reportedly pursued a vehicle carrying a man who was shouting for help from inside the car.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident happened on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, along the Oba-Ile axis of Akure during a routine patrol operation.

Police operatives were said to have received intelligence about a distress situation involving occupants of a red Toyota Camry.

“Upon receipt of the report, the operatives swiftly mobilised and pursued the suspected vehicle,” the police statement said.

During the chase, the kidnappers allegedly pushed the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving vehicle in a desperate attempt to evade arrest.

Despite the move, the police continued the pursuit and successfully arrested Adeola, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped.

The vehicle used for the operation was also recovered.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road in Akure before the police intervention.

The police said the rescued victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the arrested suspect has already provided useful information to investigators.

The case has now been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit in Akure as efforts continue to track down the fleeing gang members.

The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue sharing credible information with security agencies to support crime-fighting efforts in the state.
