Japa ends in heartbreak as woman divorces US-based hubby after 5 years apart

Jane Frances says she’s tired of putting her life on hold for her husband.

A Nigerian woman, Jane Frances, has taken to social media to announce the dissolution of her marriage to her US-based husband after five years of living apart.

Frances took to X, formerly Twitter, to showcase an order of dissolution of their marriage dated April 30th, 2026, issued by a Lagos High Court.

The woman said she was delighted to be free from the union contracted on the 17th of July, 2021, at the Epe Local Government Marriage Registry.

Jane Frances recounts failed promises

She disclosed that her husband promised to come back for her after cementing his stay in the US, but has failed to visit even once since he left.

According to her, although her husband, identified as Ekene, regularly sent money, she eventually realised financial support could not replace emotional presence, companionship, and partnership.

“After years of pretending everything was fine, I’m done. You left me in Nigeria for 5yrs while u lived overseas. You sent money like that was enough to replace a husband,” she wrote.

She complained that her husband married a foreign woman to cement his stay abroad, but kept a close watch on her so that she could not have any male friends in Nigeria.

The embittered wife further complained that her husband had installed CCTV cameras throughout the house, which he monitored remotely from abroad.

She claimed the man also appointed a chauffeur for her who took her everywhere, but lamented that this was not a replacement for the presence of her man.

Frances said the presence of her man was more important to her than money, because she missed her husband’s companionship and emotional support.

Hubby’s plea

She also shared some messages she purportedly exchanged with Ekene, where he begged her to pull down her posts over their failed marriage to prevent his Caucasian wife, identified as Ann, from discovering it online.

“Please, please, please, my pictures shouldn’t be online. Don’t mess my life up”, Ekene purportedly wrote in one of the messages he sent to her.

Pastor’s collusion

Frances accused their pastor of colluding with her husband to keep her stranded here in Nigeria without a child, while her husband was carrying on with life and a family abroad.

She accused the pastor of doing her husband’s bidding by appealing to her to exercise more patience because of the tithe he was sending to him.

The embittered woman said she was tired of putting her entire life on hold for a man who repeatedly failed to keep his promise to come home for Christmas.

Jane Frances reacts to backlash

Frances said the backlash she received after announcing her divorce shocked her deeply, especially comments from people who accused her of being ungrateful or desperate to relocate abroad.

“The way some of you dragged me when I announced my divorce still sits heavy on my chest,” she said.

She explained that her decision had nothing to do with money or relocating overseas, insisting she actually preferred living comfortably in Nigeria.

“It wasn’t about chasing abroad life because I’d rather enjoy his money in Nigeria than go over there,” she added.

The woman questioned why many people automatically blamed her without trying to understand her experience.

“Why is it so easy for you to believe a woman is the problem without even knowing the full story?” she asked.

In a lengthy reflection, she spoke about enduring the marriage for years before finally deciding to walk away for the sake of her mental and emotional well-being.

“At what point is a woman allowed to choose herself? At what point does her peace matter more than public opinion?” she wrote.

Frances also addressed the culture of encouraging people to remain in unhappy marriages at all costs.

“Leaving is not always failure. Sometimes, it’s the first honest decision you’ve made in a long time,” she said.

She warned against blindly following advice that promotes endurance without addressing deeper issues.

“One of the hardest truths I had to accept: not all advice is wisdom,” she added.
