A family meeting intended to resolve a troubled marriage ended in tragedy in Beitbridge, Zimbabwe, after a man allegedly attacked and killed his wife during discussions about their separation.
The incident involved 56-year-old Mukhosi Shadreck Mulaudzi Muthavhatsindi from Malala village and his wife, who had both recently returned from South Africa following ongoing marital issues.
According to police, the couple arrived back in Zimbabwe on April 24 but stayed separately due to their long-standing dispute—the husband at his home in Malala and the wife at her family home in Matshiloni village.
In an effort to find a resolution, relatives from both sides convened a meeting on April 26. During the discussions, the woman’s family reportedly suggested that divorce might be the best option after attempts at reconciliation failed.
Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube stated that the suggestion sparked a heated argument, which quickly escalated.
The suspect allegedly became aggressive, pursued his wife as she tried to escape, and attacked her. She later collapsed at the scene and was confirmed dead.
Following the incident, the suspect attempted to flee but was chased and apprehended by members of the community, who then alerted the authorities.
Police confirmed that the man is currently in custody and will face court proceedings.
The victim’s body has been taken for a post-mortem examination, while investigations into the case are ongoing.
