The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has denied reports claiming he was asked to resign over alleged health concerns, describing the story as entirely false.
The rebuttal followed an online publication by Sahara Reporters, which alleged that the governor had been directed to step down on medical grounds, with his deputy expected to assume office.
Government responds
In an official statement issued by his media office, Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, dismissed the report as “misleading” and part of a pattern of disinformation.
The statement maintained that the governor is in good health and continues to perform his duties without interruption.
“Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign… this is another fake news,” the statement said, adding that he remains “of sound mind and actively discharging his duties.”
Meeting with deputy governor
The statement also clarified that the governor had earlier received his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, during a routine visit.
According to the media office, the meeting was cordial and unrelated to any resignation claim, countering speculation that it was tied to a planned transition of power.
Call to disregard report
The Lagos government urged the public to ignore the report, stressing that it was issued to prevent misinformation from spreading among residents.
It added that while such claims might typically be ignored, the clarification became necessary to reassure Lagosians and maintain public confidence in the state’s leadership.
