
A 41-year-old man, Uchenna Aghoha, has been arrested after his wife, Esther, died following a domestic dispute in the Satellite Town area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, has renewed concerns over rising cases of domestic violence in Nigeria.
What happened
According to sources familiar with the case, the couple had a history of domestic disputes prior to the fatal incident. The situation reportedly escalated from an argument into a physical confrontation.
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly struck his wife, after which she collapsed. Their 14-year-old daughter reportedly raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to intervene.
The victim was rushed to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital in Ojo, where medical personnel confirmed her dead on arrival.
Police response
A police source disclosed that the case was reported by the couple’s daughter, leading to the deployment of officers to the scene.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect is currently in custody.
She added that the body has been deposited at the General Hospital Yaba morgue for autopsy, while the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti for further investigation.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence across the country, with advocates calling for stronger enforcement of protective laws and increased awareness to prevent such tragedies.
