For the third time this April, the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a compatriot, Ademola Oke, who was found unresponsive at his workplace.
The 37-year-old reportedly died on April 18 under circumstances described as sudden and unexpected.
Details of the incident were shared in a public appeal by a family friend, Adejonwo Odutola, on the fundraising platform, GoFundMe.
According to Odutola, Oke had left his home that morning in good health and maintained regular communication with his wife throughout the day, showing no signs of illness.
However, tragedy struck later when a colleague arriving for a night shift discovered him seated on a sofa at his workplace, unresponsive.
Emergency services were immediately contacted, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased is survived by his 31-year-old wife and their two young children, aged six and two.
His sudden passing has left the family devastated, with his wife now bearing the responsibility of caring for the children alone.
Describing Oke as a devoted husband and loving father, Odutola noted that the loss has had a profound emotional and financial impact on the family.
A fundraising campaign has since been launched to assist with funeral expenses and provide ongoing support for the children.
“This cause is deeply important to me because I have seen firsthand the love within this family, and the profound impact this loss has had on them. No family should have to endure such heartbreak while also facing financial uncertainty,” Odutola stated, urging the public to contribute or share the appeal.
As of the time of filing this report, £5,935 had been raised out of the £8,000 target.
Oke’s death marks the third reported case of a Nigerian dying in the UK this month. Earlier reports indicated that a Nigerian mother of three succumbed to cancer, while another man, identified simply as Herbert, was found dead in his apartment in Thornaby, reportedly in his sleep.
The recent spate of deaths has sparked concern among Nigerians in the diaspora, with many calling for increased awareness around health and welfare checks within the community.
