The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following reports of the death of Nollywood actor Solomon Akiyesi, who allegedly passed away in his sleep.

News of his demise began circulating on social media on Sunday, with multiple sources claiming the actor went to bed and did not wake up.

Popular blogger Stella Dimoko Korkus was among the first to share the development, stating that information reaching her indicated the actor died quietly in his sleep.

“According to info reaching me, he slept on Sunday and didn’t wake up. May his soul rest in peace,” she wrote.

Tributes have since poured in from colleagues and fans, reflecting on the late actor’s personality and contributions to the industry.

Nollywood actress Celestina Dovigalle described him as a lively and joyful presence both on and off set.

In an emotional tribute, she noted that Akiyesi brought laughter and ease to every production he was part of, adding that his energy made even the most demanding moments feel lighter.

“Some people don’t just walk into a room—they light it up with laughter. Solomon was that kind of soul,” she wrote, recalling his playful nature and ability to uplift those around him.

Akiyesi was known for his roles in several Nollywood productions, including Desperate Ladies, Pretty Liars, Bridge of Contract, and Heart of a Saint. His performances earned him recognition among audiences and peers alike.

As of the time of filing this report, official confirmation from family members or industry bodies is still being awaited.

In 2015, Akiyesi survived a life-threatening sickness. He took to social media afterwards to share a picture of himself undergoing treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

He had written on Facebook at the time, “Again HE just confirmed His love for me and His willingness to see I survive and hold my own in the land of the living. He just dragged me out of the belly of the giant fish and whispered in my ear:’ They will rise against you a hundredfold…I did not say they won’t…but you will defeat and survive them all a million fold, and they won’t see your back. Because you, Solomon, are my beloved,” and so I survived this again!! I return all glory and adoration to the one who said I will not die”
