A widow and staff member of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Abuja, Inna Hadiza Mohammed, has reportedly been found dead in her home.

The circumstances leading to her sudden demise are now a subject of police investigation, even as the police have taken the only son of the deceased, Musa Mohammed, into custody as a person of interest.

The family of the deceased have however, debunked speculations on social media that Musa was responsible for the death of his mother.

Many posts on social media claimed that Musa beat his mother to death after she refused to give him a ₦40 million inheritance.

The posters claimed Musa planned to travel to Canada with the funds but his mother believed he would manage the money if she released it to him.

However, a nephew of the late Mrs Mohammed has described the narrative as “grossly inaccurate and misleading.”

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Northern Nigeria Hub via a WhatsApp call, a nephew of the deceased, who requested anonymity, clarified that Musa was not arrested by the Department of State Services as widely reported, but by the police, strictly as a person of interest.

He further refuted claims of violence, stating that there were no visible injuries on the deceased’s body.

“There was no beating, no weapon involved, and certainly no evidence that he stayed with the corpse for days,” he said.

According to the family, the incident is being treated as a suspicious death, with possibilities ranging from natural causes such as cardiac arrest or a fall, to other yet-to-be-determined circumstances.

The nephew also dismissed the alleged ₦40 million inheritance as false, noting that while Musa’s father left him assets, the figure being circulated is unfounded.

He further disclosed that the remains of late Mohammed were buried following funeral prayers at Kabusa Garden Estate Mosque in Abuja, and not the National Mosque as claimed in the viral social media posts.

The family has urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified reports and allow the police to conclude their investigation to unravel what actually led to the demise of Mrs Mohammed.
